Comments: | Compared to the other Vertov autographs, this draft of a poem is less revealing as far as content is concerned than as an emotional document. Bearing numerous crossings-out and evidently written quickly and often in unreadable handwriting, this note shows the increasingly difficult work situation, in which Vertov found himself in the mid-1930s. In the text the author tries to encourage himself to continue his search, not to complain and not to fall into inactivity while waiting for bureaucratic developments - in 1934 "Tri pesni o Lenine" did not open in the cinemas of the Soviet Union for almost a year. Besides Michail Kaufman, the names for Il’ja Kopalin and Irina Setkina are also mentioned here. The film (and finally its success) is here celebrated by Vertov als a "day of celebration for Kinoglaz". |
